Yumo (Alice) Zhang

Yumo (Alice) Zhang

Alice started her official music journey at the age of 3 on the piano that was intended for her sister. In year 2, she picked percussion over cello and joined the Chinese orchestra in her primary school. She participated in various concerts and competitions with the orchestra while continuing her piano studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

In 2015, Alice moved to Perth and started to learn Western percussion at Rossmoyne Senior High School. With the excellent music program and the supportive learning environment, her love for music grew day by day. Alice performed with the wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, jazz band, choir, and participated in the Europe Tour in 2019. She was also the founder of the student-led percussion ensemble at her school and arranged a variety of music for the ensemble.

In 2020, Alice successfully passed her AMEB grade 8 exam on the piano. She also played in the Western Australian Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021.

As a result of her talent and passion for music, Alice received a scholarship and music awards at school and graduated as the top music student at Rossmoyne in 2021. She moved to Sydney last year to further her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and was granted a scholarship for her Bachelor of Music (Performance) course.

Alice actively participates in the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony and New Music ensemble at the Conservatorium. She has also played in the Chinese Music Ensemble as a percussionist and as a Dizi player.

This is Alice’s first year with the SYO and she’s very grateful and excited to be part of this community.
