As part of our commitment to supporting young musicians, SYO acknowledges the importance of providing employment opportunities. These roles work across a number of areas in the SYO business, providing income, work experience and mentoring.
Each year, musicians who successfully audition for The Sydney Youth Orchestra can apply for the following roles:
Performance
SYO Hire Performances (small ensemble/orchestral)
Open to musicians aged 16 and over. Positions to be offered based on 2022 Audition rankings
Up to 20 positions are available
Education
Tutoring OR Classroom Assistance – SYOnline Theory Program
Open to musicians aged 18 and over. Both Theory Tutor & Classroom Assistant positions are available, depending on the previous tutoring and/or classroom teaching experience.
Valid NSW WWCC required. Applicants to complete interview with Head of Orchestral Training & Head of Operations.
Theory Tutor - 1-hour class (6 classes per term)
Classroom Assistant – Min. 36 hours offered to each successful applicant
Up to 3 Theory Tutor & 8 Classroom Assistant positions available
Production
Assisting SYO Operations team at rehearsals, concerts and orchestral projects.
Open to musicians aged 18 and over. Valid NSW WWCC required. Applicants to complete interview with Head of Operations.
Min. 48 hours offered to each successful applicant
3 positions available
Administration
Assisting SYO Marketing & Digital/Operations Teams in the SYO Office with administrative tasks (ie. music preparation, event preparation, copy writing)
Open to musicians aged 16 and over. Applicants to complete interview with the Marketing Manager and Head of Operations.
Min. 48 hours offered to each successful applicant
