Lyndon Coward

Lyndon Coward

Principal Basson

Growing up across Sydney and Wollongong, Lyndon began his musical journey playing recorder in primary school. At age 12, he picked up clarinet lessons from his grandfather, before starting lessons with Nigel Edwards at Wollongong Conservatorium.

In 2021, Lyndon switched to bassoon after Nigel brought one to his lesson and suggested he try it. Throughout high school, he had a strong love for composition, but after the HSC, he ultimately chose to focus on performance. Now, under the tutelage of Andrew Barnes, he is pursuing bassoon at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he is in his fourth year.

In 2024, he was part of the SCM Wind Symphony tour to Korea and Japan, playing bassoon and contrabassoon. In 2025, Lyndon performed Weber’s Bassoon Concerto with The Sydney Lawyer’s Orchestra. In the same year, he joined the flagship Sydney Youth Orchestra, in which he is now Principal Bassoon.

In January, Lyndon attended the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp playing in the Bishop Orchestra under Alan Buribayev. Alongside performing and teaching, Lyndon is also a keen conductor, making his debut as guest conductor for Kuringai Youth Orchestra last year, after receiving mentorship from Brad Lucas.
