KHANG MAI
Co-Concert Master The Sydney Youth Orchestra 2026
Khang Mai is an 18-year-old violinist currently in his second year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he currently studies with Goetz Richter following ten years of training with Leigh Middenway.
He began learning the violin at the age of eight, and after playing in an orchestra for the first time, through the SYO strings program in 2018, he immediately knew he wanted to pursue a life in orchestral music.
Since then, Khang has enjoyed a number of orchestral highlights, including leading the Arts Unit Symphony Orchestra from 2023–2024, participating in numerous Australian Youth Orchestra programs since 2022, including as Associate Principal Second Violin in the 2026 Summer Season, and serving as Concertmaster of The SYO since 2025 under conductor Stanley Dodds.
Khang is also passionate about chamber music. In 2024, he won the Strike A Chord Monash Chamber Music Award with the Comet Quartet, which enabled the group to undertake a weeklong residency in Melbourne.
Outside of music, Khang enjoys long walks on the beach and late-night drives around the city with friends.
