JOSEPHINE KILHAM
Principal Horn
Josie has been playing the French horn for over nine years and is currently completing Year 12 at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts. She began her musical journey at the age of eight at Ashbury Public School where she played in several ensembles under the baton of Jason Isaac. Since then, Josie has developed into a confident and accomplished orchestral musician.
She has performed with the NSW Arts Unit Symphony Orchestra since 2022 and has held the position of Principal Horn since 2023.
Josie has also been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Symphonists program since 2022. She joined the Sydney Youth Orchestra in 2024, leading the Philharmonic Orchestra that year and performing with the Flagship Orchestra in 2025. Josie is thrilled to take on the role of Principal Horn for SYO in 2026.
A student of Michael Wray since 2017, Josie won the Sydney Eisteddfod Under 15 Brass category in 2024, and Highly commended in the Sydney Eisteddfod Open Brass Concerto competition and Under 19 Brass category in 2025. Additionally, she completed her AMusA (AMEB) in 2024.
Away from the concert hall, Josie enjoys taekwondo, hanging out with friends, and cooking.
