JOHN WU
John started playing the cello at age 4 under the Suzuki method with Takao Mizushima and received his AmusA Diploma with distinction at age 10 and LmusA Diploma with distinction at age 17. He was the recipient of the Sir Alistair Mackerras Full Music Scholarship at Sydney Grammar School from 2018-2023 and the principal cellist of the School Symphony Orchestra.
John’s SYO journey began in 2016 with the SYO Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2018, he received the offer for the Flagship Orchestra. He has worked with many esteemed conductors throughout his time with SYO, including Briam Buggy OAM, Alex Briger AO and Stanley Dodds. John is also a gig musician, frequently performing at weddings and events with the MSJJ Quartet.
Outside of music, John enjoys working out, writing, and watching sports (especially Formula 1 and football). He is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Sydney and is curious about the impacts of AI in the music sphere, especially to do with copyright law.
