Dylan Roberts Principal Bassoon 2024 The.SYO

Dylan first picked up the Bassoon when he was 12 and immediately fell in love with its unique character and timbre. Upon completing high school, he decided to pursue a career in classical music. In 2021, he moved to Sydney to study with Andrew Barnes at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. In the same year he was awarded the Patricia H. Reid Endowment scholarship to support his studies.

Dylan joined The Sydney Youth Orchestra in 2022 on second Bassoon and is looking forward to performing in his new role as principal. Dylan has appeared with the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Concert Orchestra, Sydney Metropolitan Orchestra and Caesura Ensemble, among others.

Dylan has also attended the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Young Symphonists program in 2022 and National Music Camps in 2023 and 2024. Dylan recently won the Sydney Conservatorium’s Woodwind Concerto Competition and will be embarking on a regional tour featuring him as a soloist.

The Sydney Youth Orchestra is powered by SYO

SYO is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW

SYO acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work, rehearse, gather and perform; the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation. We would like to pay our respects and thank the Elders for their rich musical traditions that continue to echo to this day.
