Bryn Arnold

Born in Perth but raised in Sydney, Bryn Arnold is the son of two musicians and, thus, has always had a deep passion for music. Having played percussion from age 6, he began playing the horn at age 9 and instantly fell in love with the instrument.

Bryn studied with Tim Ferrier, Tina Brain and Cheryl Oxley in high school, where he received a nomination for HSC’s Encore. In 2020 commenced a Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he received the Richard Merewether French Horn Fellowship, and is currently studying with David Thompson. He is also an enthusiastic pedagogue, teaching a number of horn, trumpet and percussion students.

Bryn has been a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestras’ flagship orchestra since 2020, and was principal horn of the Lane Cove Youth Orchestra for many years, where he also studied conducting under Mark Brown. In 2021, he was principal horn in three Sydney Conservatorium of Music Wind Symphony programs under Stephen Williams and Steven Hillinger, and principal horn of the Conservatorium’s Opera Orchestra for their production of Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

He particularly enjoys the wind quintet repertoire, and is a founding member of the Wollemi Quintet. In 2021, the quintet was invited to take part in the Advanced Masterclass program at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville and, later that year, they performed at Government House in the University of Sydney Vice Chancellor’s Concert.
