R. It’s everything. Because of my experience in SYO I have been able to now be considered as one of the top Cor Anglais players in the world.

R. Play in SYO! Use all the local organisations you can find in order to play with others and get experience.
Rixon Thomas is today one of the world’s leading Cor Anglias players. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he has had tenure positions in Sydney Symphony, New Zealand Symphony, Copenhagen Phil, The Opera Australia Orchestra and is currently solo English Horn in the worlds’ oldest orchestra – Det Kongelige Kapel (The Royal Danish Orchestra). Rixon also performs with the Australian World Orchestra and Budapest Festival Orchestra.
As a teacher he gives classes to students around the world, and in 2017 Rixon joined the faculty of the Orchestra of the Americas.
In 2018 Rixon became an Artist sponsored by the German instrument maker – Mönnig.
In 2022 Rixon was invited to play in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra in Germany, performing the famed solo in Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde” on stage and in costume. As this is the largest solo for Cor Anglias he is now considered one of the
world’s top interpreters of this solo. The following year he was re-invited to Bayreuth to play the Tannhäuser solo as well as Tristan and Isolde.
He lives in Copenhagen with his wife and 3 children with close contact to Australia.
