Wesley Woodhouse
Principal Tenor Trombone
Wesley began playing the trombone at the age of 8 in his local primary school band. Taking to the instrument with relish, he quickly moved onto the euphonium and tuba as well, playing all three through to the end of his primary schooling. In a great gift to his musical future, Wesley was bestowed a music scholarship for high school, and it was here where he began to explore the creative and artistic side of the trombone through immersion in choral, orchestral, band and jazz music. At this time (2023) he also entered the SYO for the first time as Bass Trombone in the Peter Seymour Orchestra.
It was due to his solo performances in soirees and competitions, where he found the most opportunities for expressions and impact, that Wesley decided to pursue his instrument at the tertiary level. He gained admission to the Sydney Conservatorium in 2025, and was thrown into a large network of fellow trombonists for the first time, enlivening his passion and stimulation.
More recently, he has taken an interest in recovering forgotten gems of the trombone repertoire, recovering rare works by Nesterov, Blazhevich and others.
